Google Wear OS Could Get Support for Smartwatch Backup When Changing to New Devices: Report

Google Wear OS Could Get Support for Smartwatch Backup

Google's initiatives to enhance the entire experience on Android smartphones have been disclosed in the most recent APK breakdown of its Play Services app, which comes as more and more Wear OS devices have begun to hit the market.

Google Play Services is getting ready to add support for storing up smartwatch data when moving to a new device, according to an app deconstruction by XDA-Developers that uncovered new strings in the beta version 22.32.12 edition of the app.

One of the strings included the following prompts in its name: "Back up your device with Google One/Back up via Google One/Choose backup account."

Users now need to factory reset their Wear OS smartwatches in order to transfer them to a new Android smartphone. A device backup option would greatly improve the user experience.

It's intriguing that Google One, a premium Google membership, is mentioned. Although a Google One membership is not necessary to access the service, Google's device data backup settings and administration are located in the Google One app for Android and iOS.

According to the story, Google wouldn't place a function like this behind a paywall because Google One customers pay for more storage on their Google Account.

Google apparently just began releasing upgrades for its Camera applications for Wear OS and Android. Minor upgrades are made to the Google Camera app for Pixel smartphones, however major changes are made to the Wear OS app, which essentially serves as a remote control for Pixel users. Since quite some time, the Wear OS camera software needs to be updated. In the upcoming months, Google is also anticipated to release its brand-new Pixel Watch, which will utilize the most recent Wear OS. (via: gadgets360)
