The 'Far Out' iPhone 14 Event is scheduled for September 7th

Image
Apple has finally confirmed the date and location of the iPhone 14 presentation! Sure, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman teased us about the rumored launch event, but receiving an invite indicates Apple has verified the event is happening. The iPhone spectacular this year will take place on September 7 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. The event will take place in person in Apple's Cupertino headquarters' Steve Jobs Theater, but it will also be live-streamed for anyone who wish to watch from home. Apple's event is titled "Far Out." Perhaps the gist is that the iPhone 14's upgraded cameras will allow us to view far off. The event's graphic teases what will be revealed. I think I see a long exposure photo of the night sky with stars lined around the Apple logo, but it may just be sparkles or bokeh. In any case, I'm quite sure we're discussing camera capabilities here. Expectations for the iPhone 14 The speculations about what to anticipate from Apple's next p...

September 7th may be the day for Apple's iPhone 14 event

Image
Date your calendars. On September 7, Apple is anticipated to hold its renowned iPhone announcement event. The iPhone 14 and potentially a new Apple Watch Series 8 will be presented, as has historically been the case for the first of the company's two September events, "people with knowledge of the matter" tell Bloomberg business reporter Mark Gurman. Insiders predict that the iPhone 14 Pro will update to Apple's own A16 processor and do away with the hated front-facing camera notch in favor of a "pill-shaped hole" and a "hole-punch-sized region" for the camera. Additionally, the 5.4-inch "small" model from the iPhone 14 series is apparently being replaced by a 6.7-inch non-Pro model. The standard iPhone 14 models will continue to use the A15 chip that powers the current iPhone 13 line, the report further states. Gurman points out that the iPhone 13 line did well last quarter despite declining smartphone sales as a result of inflation and ...

Apple Watch Series 7 is available for $290 today

Image
Apple may be preparing to reveal the next iteration of its wristwatch in just about a month, but those looking for a new wearable right away may find the Series 7 on Amazon for less money. The 41mm and 45mm GPS Product Red versions of the Watch are now available for $290 and $320, respectively, thanks to the online retailer's price reduction. Each models are discounted, but in addition to being on sale, they also both have additional coupons that will be automatically applied at checkout to lower their final sale pricing. With each generation, Apple has consistently improved the Watch, and the Series 7 is no exception. Although it didn't much differ from the Series 6 that came before it, the business did make several significant advancements. With its larger screen, the Series 7 makes it simpler to read text and even type messages on its display. The Series 7 Apple Watch is the first to have an IP6X dust resistance rating, making it the most durable Watch to date, despite havi...

Apple allegedly attempted to accomplice with Facebook to induce a cut of its revenue

Image
Apple and Facebook have been at conflict for a while now; at WWDC 2020, Apple stated that iOS would mandate that developers ask users to consent to cross-app advertising tracking. Facebook spent a significant portion of the following months criticizing Apple's plans and projecting revenue volatility as a result of the changes, however the feature was actually introduced in iOS 14.5 back in April 2021. Surprisingly, a recent Wall Street Journal report asserts that Facebook and Apple were negotiating a collaboration and revenue-sharing agreement prior to this whole thing happening. The Journal said that Facebook and Apple were discussing a subscription service that would provide an ad-free version of the site. It might have been a very profitable deal as well, given that Apple takes a percent of all in-app sales, including subscriptions. Apple getting a portion of "boosted posts," which essentially means paying to put a message in front of a wider audience, was another arra...

Customers in Europe can now take advantage of a free gift card from Apple when purchasing an eligible device. HTC will Defend Itself Against Apple Lawsuit

Image
It is a no brainer that HTC will take steps to defend itself fully against Apple's actions, and in their own words, "HTC strongly advocates intellectual property protection and will continue to respect other innovators and their technologies as we have always done, but we will continue to embrace competition through our own innovation as a healthy way for consumers to get the best mobile experience possible.”  This coming from the company that brought us the first 3.5" color touchscreen smartphone in the world in the form of the O2 XDA, alongside other list of accolades which include the first Windows PDA, first Windows phone, first 3G CDMA EVDO smartphone, first gesture-based smartphone (take that, Apple!), first Google Android smartphone and first 4G WIMAX smartphone. This court battle looks set to be interesting.

Apple Tablet Coming in Early 2010: a Kindle Killer?

Image
We've seen the Apple tablet rumor go by, and we've been following this since the patent was filed, including the recent rumors. However, some are saying that Apple’s tablet could be a "kindle" (or kindle dx) killer, and that's a little bit more curious. For sure, a tablet computer would have many advantages over an eBook and Apple can probably put up a good fight on the distribution side, but the real question is the battery life and the display. Such a tablet probably won't last for more than 3-4 hours of continuous use, so one has to wonder if that's good enough to act as an efficient eBook. For some users, naybe, but for hardcore readers it is not so certain. Also, reading on an LCD display arguably strains the eyes more than reading on an eBook. We think that it will take an eBook (with color e-Ink) and a great distribution system to Kill the Kindle.

Buy a Cheaper iPhone in 2009

Image
You have probably heard that Walmart is now selling iPhones at the bargain price of $197/$297 but Best Buy is going one better, selling refurbished 3G models for $149 for the 8GB version and $249 for the 16GB version - a $50 saving on Apple's pricing. But wait! It gets better... according to Seth Weintraub on the Computer World blog , AT&T is selling refurbished 8GB iPhones for $99. Run, don't walk - these deals are bound to be popular!

New MacBook Air is Out

Image
The new MacBook Air has landed, and folks all over are recording their impressions of the slightly-revamped ultraportable. Obviously there's very little to note externally, with the same packaging and design to the computer -- the only real difference is the new mini DisplayPort plug to replace that totally oddball microDVI plug. What's much more exciting is what's under the hood, namely integrated graphics (NVIDIA 9400M) with enough juice to, say, play back a YouTube video without overheating the computer to a point of non-usability. Shocking, we know. Booting is a snap (25 seconds in informal testing) with that new 128GB SSD, the computer runs cool and core-shut-down-free, can handle full HD video, and outputs to external monitors without a problem. Apple really hamstrung an otherwise interesting computer in the original Air with a criminal lack of power and cooling, and we're happy to report that they seem to have righted those wrongs -- though MacBook Air 1.0 owners...

Microsoft Puts Booths Outside Apple Store

Image
The Apple vs Microsoft ad war keeps escalating. Microsoft has setup a booth just outside the Apple Store, Bullring, Birmingham. The booth looks like it will aim to turn patrons away from the Mac store over the next few days. As part of Microsoft’s new $300 million advertising campaign, Microsoft has invited visitors to its website to upload their own videos and photos to show “how they, too, are PCs”. This is probably a response from Microsoft to Apple’s “I’m a Mac” ads. To be honest, Apple will probably just make fun of Microsoft’s latest attempt to look trendy and fun, so we’ll just wait and see what the response from Apple is.

Ultra-thin, Ultra-light MacBook Pro coming by year end

Image
Trusted sources informed MacScoop that Apple is headed towards the release of a notebook that is so small and light that it could redefine the standards of ultra-portable computing. The new notebook is likely to complete the MacBook Pro line-up with a smaller version featuring a 12 inch display — a form factor that was formerly used on the PowerBooks' entry-level but was discontinued when the line-up made the switch to the Intel architecture in 2006. Compared to the original 12 inch PowerBook, which is Apple's smallest notebook released so far, the new notebook is said to be half as thick, or something between 0.6 and 0.7 inch (15 to 18 millimetres). It will also be, by far, the lightest computer Apple ever released, or less than 3 pounds ( The company's current MacBook Pro line-up features 15 inch and 17 inch models with respective weights of 5.4 pounds (2.44Kg) and 6.8 pounds (3.08Kg). Both of the current form factors offer 1 inch of thickness (25 mm). The 12 inch PowerBo...
