The 'Far Out' iPhone 14 Event is scheduled for September 7th

Image
Apple has finally confirmed the date and location of the iPhone 14 presentation! Sure, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman teased us about the rumored launch event, but receiving an invite indicates Apple has verified the event is happening. The iPhone spectacular this year will take place on September 7 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. The event will take place in person in Apple's Cupertino headquarters' Steve Jobs Theater, but it will also be live-streamed for anyone who wish to watch from home. Apple's event is titled "Far Out." Perhaps the gist is that the iPhone 14's upgraded cameras will allow us to view far off. The event's graphic teases what will be revealed. I think I see a long exposure photo of the night sky with stars lined around the Apple logo, but it may just be sparkles or bokeh. In any case, I'm quite sure we're discussing camera capabilities here. Expectations for the iPhone 14 The speculations about what to anticipate from Apple's next p...

September 7th may be the day for Apple's iPhone 14 event

Image
Date your calendars. On September 7, Apple is anticipated to hold its renowned iPhone announcement event. The iPhone 14 and potentially a new Apple Watch Series 8 will be presented, as has historically been the case for the first of the company's two September events, "people with knowledge of the matter" tell Bloomberg business reporter Mark Gurman. Insiders predict that the iPhone 14 Pro will update to Apple's own A16 processor and do away with the hated front-facing camera notch in favor of a "pill-shaped hole" and a "hole-punch-sized region" for the camera. Additionally, the 5.4-inch "small" model from the iPhone 14 series is apparently being replaced by a 6.7-inch non-Pro model. The standard iPhone 14 models will continue to use the A15 chip that powers the current iPhone 13 line, the report further states. Gurman points out that the iPhone 13 line did well last quarter despite declining smartphone sales as a result of inflation and ...

Ads may soon appear on your iPhone

Image
In the future, Apple might add advertisements to more of the pre-installed apps on your iPhone and other Apple devices, such as Maps, Books, and Podcasts. Apple has reportedly internally tested search advertisements in Maps that might show suggestions when you look for local restaurants, shops, or other businesses, according to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Similar advertising tactics are already used by Apple in their Software Store, where developers may pay to have their app pushed on the search results page for terms like "puzzle games" or "photo editor." Gurman pointed out that adverts on Maps might function similarly, with companies paying to be displayed at the top of search results when users input specific search phrases. Apple may add advertisements to its native Books and Podcasts apps, according to Gurman. This would make it possible for publishers to add advertisements to specific app areas or pay to boost their content in search results. Bo...

iPhone DJ Mixer

Image
Egad! From vinyls to MP3s, could the future of raves at clubs go beyond the iPod? The iPhone DJ Mixer could potentially usher in a new era of how DJs spin their music, where it will combine music from a couple of iPhones, iPods or MP3 players, or one of each if you prefer. It comes with a spin option, a couple of effects programs with reverb, flange and filter and cross-fade slider and recording option, alongside a speaker system connection and microphone jack. While you're busy mixing up your tracks, the iPhone DJ Mixer will also double up as a charger when in action. Sounds like $120 well spent if you decide to bring this bad boy home.

iPhone 3GS Jailbreak Purplera1n Released

Image
If the hacking group called iPhone Dev-Team won't release their Jailbreak, it seems like someone else will. Developer George Hotz has released the Purplera1n jailbreak software for iPhone 3GS and by all accounts, it seems to work. This one runs on Windows XP and Vista (Windows 7 and Mac OS aren't supported, apparently - it's weird for Windows 7). The jailbreak assumes that your iPhone runs with OS 3.0 (for a 3GS, that should be the case) and that you have the latest version of iTunes (may be do an update check?). The author warns that the Jailbreak is a beta, so do a full backup before running it just to be safe. Obviously, do this at your own peril, as this is clearly not supported by Apple. Good luck.

MiLi Pro, Projector for iPhone

Image
The iPhone might come with a generally large display, but sometimes you want to view movies on the big screen even when alone. Guess this is where devices like the MiLi Pro LCOS, LED-driven projector comes in, playing nice with both the iPhone and iPod touch. All you need to do is plonk the device of your choice into it and it will throw the image/movie from your phone onto a screen (or just the wall if you can't be bothered with the screen). Resolution isn't anything to shout about compared to home projectors, but 640 x 480 pixels ought to be good enough at smaller screen sizes, while looking rather horrid when blown up to its maximum 70" size. Good thing they recommend a maximum 40" screen size to avoid disappointments. No word on pricing, but the MiLi Pro is tipped to arrive this September.

Chinese Manufacturer Release Slim iPhone Clone

Image
Did Apple release a new iPhone that we're not aware of? Nopes - what you see here is effort from Guangxi Nanning Jiguang Trade Co., Ltd. of China that offers an iPhone clone, featuring 16GB of 32GB of storage space although leaving out the cell phone functionality. You won't even get VoIP support, so this is relegated to yet another portable media player that is confused about its self-image and purpose in life. Other features include e-book support, an integrated FM radio and expandable memory. Strangely enough for a PMP, it supports the MVP video format only, which is unthinkable if you expect users to encode their existing collection of video files yet again.

Metal Bluetooth Headset for iPhone 3G

Image
Contour Design and Bluetrek have come together to sculpt this Metal Bluetooth Headset for the iPhone, and it is touted to be the thinnest wireless Bluetooth 2.0 headset to date, sharing roughly the same dimensions with a Sony Memory Stick complete with a rubber-tipped in-canal earphone. The silver aluminum body is accented by chrome, where a trio of small buttons located on one edge help you control the volume and presumably, the on/off button. A special power connector on the other end will need to be used in conjunction with the included plastic USB connector whenever you want to juice up the Metal Bluetooth Headset. Each $80 purchase comes with a belt clip, half a dozen rubber eartips, two optional clear plastic ear mounts, a car charging bulb and an USB extension cable for use at home or in the car.

Buy a Cheaper iPhone in 2009

Image
You have probably heard that Walmart is now selling iPhones at the bargain price of $197/$297 but Best Buy is going one better, selling refurbished 3G models for $149 for the 8GB version and $249 for the 16GB version - a $50 saving on Apple's pricing. But wait! It gets better... according to Seth Weintraub on the Computer World blog , AT&T is selling refurbished 8GB iPhones for $99. Run, don't walk - these deals are bound to be popular!

Gold Retro iPhone Handset

Image
If you bought the white iPhone because the black was too passé and they didn't have the leopard prints model available, then you can compensate for the lack of bad-enough taste by buying this gold retro handset . It's just like any other retro handset available, but you can connect it to the stereo/microphone jack of the iPhone and it's fake gold. Additionally, you can use it to smack people in your next sweded version of Scarface for just $50.

Meizu's M8 iPhone Clone

Image
We recently mentioned that Meizu's M8 iPhone clonephone was really coming to the shops in China at the end of the year, but according to the head of the company, thing's'll be happening a bit sooner than that. J. Wong himself has suggested that it'll be on sale in China no later than the 30th of this month, with Wi-Fi disabled as per China's legal requirements. A fully-enabled Indian version will follow... and then Europe, Hong Kong and the US should be happening by December 24th. The price has been fleshed out a little as well: the 8GB one should go for about $350, and the 16GB for $420. So it's not long until Apple's lawyers can get their mitts on one, and see how much cloning has gone on.

Solar Powered Leather Case Charger for Your iPhone

Image
Of all the sweet and chic cases available in plenty for your iPhone, why would you want to even glance at this leather iPhone case which, at best, can only be termed an ugly duckling ? Because, forgetting its ungainly looks for a moment, it is a solar powered case which can juice up your iPhone perhaps during that unexpected emergency when your phone’s completely dead and an alternate power source is hard to find. The leather case conceals a rechargeable battery that you can charge either by solar power or via USB. Then transfering the power to your iPhone takes just a few simple steps – just insert the iPhone into the case and you are done. The iPhone fully charges up in less than 3 hours provided the battery within the case has been fully charged. Cons ? The battery itself takes an agonizing 12 hours to charge on solar power, and you will have to part with an unreasonable $48 to bring home this beast.

iPhone Armband for Sporty Types

Image
Are you a proud owner of an iPhone? Brando has the iPhone Armband that keeps your spanking new handset in place while you sweat it out at the local gym. The armband has a length of 42cm, so unless you have overdosed on synthol injections, that ought to be long enough to fit just about any arm. The only problem would be the wired headphones - won't exercising with a wire dangling out be rather distracting to say the least? You can pick up the iPhone Armband for $14 a pop.

Apple Facing Patent Lawsuit Over iPhone Keyboard

Image
It may be a little slow out of the gate, but Florida-based SP Technologies is now taking aim at Apple over the iPhone's touchscreen keyboard, claiming that it infringes on a patent it has held since 2004. According to MacNN, that patent describes a "method and medium for computer readable keyboard display incapable of user termination," and the company is saying that Apple was "willful and deliberate" in its alleged infringement of it. As a result, SP Technologies is demanding that Apple pay "reasonable royalties" for each iPhone already sold, along with an injunction to prevent any further use of the allegedly offending intellectual property by Apple. No word on a next move but, as with most of these lawsuits, it'll be up to a federal court in Texas to sort things out.

What iPhone Has And What It Doesn’t

Image
Following up our list of features the iPhone was finally confirmed not to have, here's a comprehensive list based on the four reviews currently out detailing everything we know about the iPhone so far: what it has, what it doesn't have, its known problems and what we still don't know. What it has: • Built-in iPod with Video playback • Intelligent predictive typing • Multi-touch interface (fast) • Great scratch resistant screen (easily cleaned with your sleeve) • Tilt sensors that lock the screen when up to your face, but unlocks it when you lower it to type numbers • Screen that's visible in direct sunlight • Software upgrades over time • Decent voice quality • Call and song control from its headphones • Viewing Word, Excel and PDF documents • Free live traffic in Google Maps • Turn by turn directions that simulate a GPS (need to tell the phone when you're turning) • Dedicated volume control and mute switch • Microsoft Exchange support if your IT staff enables a set...
