Lucid reveal top-of-the-line performance EV
The top-of-the-line Lucid Air Sapphire Edition sedan, made by luxury electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Motors, was unveiled. According to the company, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under two seconds, from 0 to 100 mph in under four seconds, and can complete the quarter-mile in under nine seconds.

The new sapphire blue vehicle may surpass the Tesla Model S Plaid as the most powerful production sedan on the market because to its amazing performance in a full-size, fully electric luxury sedan.

The new Sapphire Edition combines a lot of the features from Lucid's lower trim vehicles, notably the Dream Edition and the Grand Touring Performance Edition, and was unveiled Friday during Monterey Car Week. First off, the new Air has three motors—two in the back and one up front—bringing the total projected horsepower to 1,200, according to Lucid.

When the new model was introduced, Lucid did not provide any torque figures, but as Eric Bach stated during an early press event, "Lucid is reinventing what the family sedan can achieve."

Two 500kW inverters, modeled after those in the Dream Performance Edition, as well as unique planetary gear reduction units are included in the dual rear-drive unit. In order to provide the Sapphire Edition better stability and control, the rear configuration enables torque to be transferred to each tire in different directions. To help the huge car turn more accurately, the device can also brake each individual rear wheel individually.

According to Lucid, the twin rear-drive unit also benefits from improved coolant flow rates and innovative heat exchanger technology. Although the firm claimed that the battery system had been improved for greater power and better thermoregulation, no specifics were provided at the time of release.

When increasing power, you must also increase the size of your brakes, suspension, and tires. To do this, Lucid modified the Sapphire's spring rates, increased the damping, installed sway bars, updated the power steering, and fitted carbon ceramic brakes.

Additionally, the Sapphire Edition will come with a unique pair of composite wheels and tires (20 inches up front and 21 inches rear) that are built of a composition that gives low rolling resistance and good traction, much like a Cup 2 tire. For longer, more leisurely trips, Lucid will also include a pair of wheel shields that can be added to the wheels using the center locks to increase their efficiency and aerodynamics.

The Sapphire Edition has various cosmetic upgrades in addition to all the performance upgrades, most notably the exterior's unique Sapphire blue color and a new stealth trim style that covers up the brightwork, such as the side-view mirrors and the additional duckbill spoiler at the rear. The front and rear fenders both go wider by 12mm and 24mm, respectively, according to Lucid.

The internal space and packaging still all fit inside the same footprint as the regular Lucid Air, despite with the extra motor. The Sapphire Edition cars will be constructed on the same line as the other Airs being put together at the company's facility in Arizona, so interior and baggage room won't be reduced.
